There is a reason people like me end up grabbing the mouse and telling other people to move over.

And the relatives who are only in their 50's, but you'd swear they're much older...

LOL! There's a tech association called IEEE, and that's how I always end up pronouncing it in my head.

Heh, I call that I-triple-E, because that's how my roommate the EE major said it.

Hee... yeah, I think that's the generally-accepted pronunciation. AIEEEEEEEEEEEE is more fun, though!

I just got an MCTS in October and, based on the jobs I've been applying for recently, I'm likely going to end up doing things just like this. I have a ton of call center experience (8 years) but not in tech support, so I already have a load of stories to share.

Can't speak, giggling me head off!
*Phew* My sister is like this, and she's only 36. =D
It's not rocket science people! (I could rant for ages about older people's inability to learn new tricks...)

It's the same with the new self-service registers older people are complaining about in letters to the editor. You press start, scan the barcode, put item in the bag. Press fruit/ veg, look up item alphabetically, type in how many you are purchasing, press enter. Put in money, get change (or use credit card, but even credit cards are too hard for the oldies) and receipt. How hard is that?! Aaaargh! (If you can't tell, this is my peeve at the moment.)

oh no, those self serve things are annoying!! I used one the other day, and when I went to put a full bag back in the trolley(cart) it told me to put it back in the packing area... but it was full.... I have reminded myself now, unless I am buying like 3 things, I'm going through a register with a person!

As for computer issues, my hubby has a degree in computer engineering so they all talk to him and I get to play games instead :)

Believe me, I feel this pain!

We get patrons who either need or expect us to do everything for them. I had one lady who, when I tried to show her how to use the photocopier, looked me dead in the eye and said "Oh no, I can't be bothered with that, I want you to just do it." What did your last slave die of, lady?!

Some modems and routers have different addresses. They're usually printed on the bottom of the device.

I think my boss called Minty in this strip. She refers to me as the "tech person" because I maintain the office facebook page.

LOL! Is Minty talking to my dad?

...No, wait. I don't think Dad knows what a router is, so he wouldn't have gotten this far. XD

The not-so-savvy dad in my life isn't sure what a browser is, so he wouldn't have got far, either.

A lot of this is from an actual conversation Tuesday... *hopes he never reads this*

Random note of observation because my Xanax is my best friend... but I've never seen Minty's hair look so sparkly! :D I loves it!

And the saddest part is that I do not work in tech support and yet I have managed to have a eerily similar conversation before in not one but TWO offices I have worked for in the past where I wound up being the pseudo-IT girl because the real techs couldn't be bothered with the mundane problems until their backlog was caught up.

Naturally, what they see as mundane, the user feels is a life and death situation.

Oh Minty. Love. I feel you.

Well the recent elder generation can hardlyer learn to use the recent technologies than the recent young generation. I wat will be the thender about 40-50 years into the future.
