And so it begins! I'm still experimenting with the page size and playing around with word balloons. Comments and feedback are welcome and appreciated!

Huzzah! :D

I like that you immediately start off by breaking the "4th wall" and having Kimono speak directly to the reader. Great for setting the scene - and this was a great showcase the townhouse itself. I think it's neat how those accessories are really the perfect size.

And I love that she's yanked out the toilet, lol. Where else would you start, afterall? ;)

"omigod!" ::big grin::

Custom Kimono in the final panel looks *excellent* btw.

Thank you so much, Spoosh! Your comments are especially important to me, since you've been doing this whole web-comic-thing, too. :)

I figured I should start off by giving readers a general "tour" of the house. It really is a nice set-up, after all. So I tried to make it feel like the reader is Kimono's guest, and she's showing them around.

Custom Kimono in the final panel looks *excellent* btw.
Thanks! :D Kimono #4 is definitely the prettiest of the bunch so far.

Lovely. The balloons are a good size and the font you used is wonderful. Very easy to read. :) The pictures still look very crisp and the quality is fantastic.

I still like how the first thing to go is the toilet. That amuses me.

*wonders just how many palces Minty will find to 'store' her socks*
Feb. 8th, 2006 09:31 pm (UTC)
Thanks! I may still try out different fonts, but so far I really like this one. It sizes down well, and it's not all-caps. And I hope to really perfect the balloons.

LOL! I tried to imagine just what a pony would do with a toilet, and decided it had to go. Besides, that bathroom had no bath tub!

Love it! I wish the panels were a little bigger though. Not the balloons, just the panels.

You have an AMAZING set-up here. Whew!
Feb. 8th, 2006 09:34 pm (UTC)
Yay! :D

I wish the panels were a little bigger though. Not the balloons, just the panels.
*nods* On most pages, there will only be four panels, and that will give them more room. I was afraid the page size was already too big, and I don't want to kill anyone's modems. :P

kimono almost looks like she's rolling her eyes at minty in that last panel, lol!!
Feb. 8th, 2006 10:23 pm (UTC)
She does that a lot. ;)
Feb. 9th, 2006 12:28 am (UTC)
Excellent first comic, Dava! The font looks good. I like the "unpacking clutter" in the second panel...she even has a little box! It looks very realistic (of course it does...you're the Accessory Queen!). And I love her in the last panel...you can almost hear the long-suffering sigh.
Feb. 9th, 2006 01:06 am (UTC)
*dons the Accessory Queen crown*

Thanks! :D I think I'll have entirely too much fun accessorizing this house.
Feb. 9th, 2006 02:31 am (UTC)
Wee, I love it! :D Totally watching this!
Feb. 9th, 2006 04:45 am (UTC)
Thank you! ^_^ (Wow, who knew a webcomic was a way to meet new people?)
Feb. 9th, 2006 04:52 am (UTC)
:3 I've seen you around for ages, I remember your old customs site. ^__^ We've just never spoken personally. :D So I guess I am new to you! XD Ehh. *blathering*
Feb. 9th, 2006 05:07 am (UTC)
Yep, I'm probably best known for Customizing 101. And now, my customs will probably result in weird emails to Hasbro, wondering where to get Kimono III. :P

I think I've seen you commenting in Ponyville, but yeah, you're new to me! Glad to meet ya! ^_^
Feb. 9th, 2006 05:12 am (UTC)
I've seen you comment on Ponyville, too. :3 And yes, I remember Customizing 101! :D

Nice to meet you too. ^^

You know Rose--she used to hang out at Kingsley's back in the day...she just didn't post as much as the rest of us did.
Feb. 9th, 2006 02:40 am (UTC)
I had no idea there were so many variations of Kimono! (is the last one a hasbro release?)
This is a really cute idea. I love the detail and interest you've added by the careful placement of accessories.
Can't wait to read new ones!
Feb. 9th, 2006 04:48 am (UTC)
Oh, gosh, I hope I don't cause too much confusion here. The Kimono in the last frame is a custom I made. I'm working on different poses for both characters, since MLP are decidedly un-poseable. I'll have to make a FAQ for that...
Feb. 9th, 2006 06:27 am (UTC)
It's a compliment to your customizing that I was confused. :D I really thought I'd missed some variation.
Feb. 9th, 2006 02:42 am (UTC)
OMG! She has a tiny bonsai!

Where did you get that!?
Feb. 9th, 2006 04:50 am (UTC)
*thinks* That came from a Barbie "Getting Ready" set. It came with a paper lantern, bonsai, and some other cool Asian-themed accessories.
Feb. 9th, 2006 06:28 am (UTC)
That rules. I love Asian things.
Feb. 9th, 2006 02:43 am (UTC)
*hops* The comic format looks great -- it really pulls the concept together. And the Kimono in the last panel is very convincing -- you're going to cause some definite confusion as far as rereleases go. ;D

So I see! o_O

I'm glad you like it. I've still got some tweaking to do, but I hope I'm on the right track. ^_^
Feb. 9th, 2006 03:58 am (UTC)
Oh,lordy this is so cute. And making the multitude of Kimonos for different poses was the most brilliant move.:)
Feb. 9th, 2006 04:52 am (UTC)
Always good to know you approve. :D
Feb. 9th, 2006 08:53 am (UTC)
I found you through spoosh :) I love the details of her house. What a cool idea to use pictures instead of drawings. And probably a bit easier on you too! *g* I also like that you're using different poses for Kimono.

The best part was her taking the toilet out of the bathroom. LOL.

I will definitely come back and read more of these!

Emily :)
Feb. 9th, 2006 05:55 pm (UTC)
Ah, yes. Spoosh is responsible for so much insanity. And I'm pretty sure once Kimono ripped up that toilet, she threw it out the window! LOL!

Thanks for joining up. ^_^
Feb. 11th, 2006 08:20 pm (UTC)
I also found you through Spoosh. Looking forward to reading more. :)

Okay, just *how many* Kimono ponies are there? Unless you did some flipping, there are at least three in that comic? They made a Kimono with the cutie mark on the other side?

And HI! Found you through livejournal spotlight. I'm a pony collector myself, so I'll be watching from now one. <3
Jun. 12th, 2007 04:35 pm (UTC)
There are three Kimonos in this page, and only two are Hasbro releases. I've been a busy customizer! You can read more about the customs at my Frequently Asked Questions page.
Jun. 12th, 2007 06:28 pm (UTC)
Ah ha ha, I should I have looked there first, many apologies! (And here I am complaining that people never take the time to look for content themselves, tsk, shame on me!) Though the FAQ doesn't say how you actually customize them. Do you dye the ponies, or do you try to stick with ponies of similar color? How do you get the kimono and minty symbols, do you paint them, or are they stickers? You do an excellent job, by the way!

I took a couple of the icons you made (and gave credit of course!) so thank you very much!
Jun. 12th, 2007 07:51 pm (UTC)
Though the FAQ doesn't say how you actually customize them.

That would be giving away trade secrets, wouldn't it? ;)

I reveal a lot of my techniques at an old website of mine, Customizing 101. Some are dyed, some aren't. I don't paint bodies. Minty's symbols are painted freehand, and Kimono's symbols are top-secret. ^_^
Jun. 12th, 2007 07:56 pm (UTC)
Well hats off to you then! Very well done! I'll have to poke at your customization site, though honestly there are so many people out there who are so awesome at it that I feel like there's no point in my even trying. Have you seen Woosie's customs?
Jun. 12th, 2007 08:35 pm (UTC)
I have! My husband and I were marveling over her Skeletor pony several weeks ago. He decided it's the coolest pony ever made. :P
Jun. 12th, 2007 08:50 pm (UTC)
My Master was giggling over the "panties" on the Skeletor pony.. *laughs* I think she does awesome work, and I have to agree that the Skeletor pony in particular is a stellar example of her work. I adore all the wings she does, I can't imagine sculpting something so intricate! I'd go bonkers!
Jun. 12th, 2007 04:16 pm (UTC)
Hi there, this looks adorable! But clicking on the "next page" link gives me permissions error. I'll just read around it, but it seems like something you might want to know.
Jun. 12th, 2007 04:29 pm (UTC)
Whoops.... I was cleaning the place up for the LJ Spotlight, and I ended up screening some entries that were just plain text. I guess I should unscreen those so readers don't have that problem. :P

Opening cartoon
Nice! Not only did you introduce the two ponies well, but broke the 4th wall *gracefully*.

This comic has possibilities!
