When you hang out with guys long enough, you hear a lot of one-word conversations. It's a subtle art, depending entirely on inflection. I was never one for subtlety, so I'm more likely to beat someone over the head with a litany of four-syllable words.

Thanks to donations I received last week, I was able to buy some new light rigs for KT. Now we can see all the stuff in the background! Thank you so very much to those who donated. You are awesome beyond words. ^_^

The donation gifts will be a regular feature of KT from here on out. The wallpapers I showed last week will be available for another month or two, and then I will have a new incentive to offer. Why is pizza so readily available when you're trying to lose weight? I'll go months without seeing a pizza, and as soon as I decide to lose a couple pounds, there it is, ready and delicious.

Poor Kimono! Minty's not trying to sabotage her. She's just one of those types who can eat whatever they want. Must be nice. :P

I played drums in school, and I actually did this once while replacing a snare. That thing flew right toward the brass section. Those of you who have experience with drums may wonder how the heck I managed to do that. All I can say is it's a special talent reserved for klutzes like myself.

Big news! KT is now searchable! I've added a search box to the comic page, as well as the archive and site map pages, so now you can easily find all your favorite pages. Just type in a word or phrase, like "wasabi" or "Brightly," and you'll be taken to a list of all KT episodes dealing with that subject. Hooray! I've also added the search function to the sidebar of this blog. Many, many thanks go out to everyone who helped with the transcription process. This was possible because of your generosity!

Updating early as I am ill and would like to go to bed! My family's situation is gradually improving. Many thanks to those who have wished us well.

There's a small departure in this one, as I have incorporated a non-miniature item in the photographs. I've done this only once before, and I try not to make a habit of it. My new house has a flower garden. I grew up helping my mother tend our vegetable garden, but flowers are new to me. I've done a lot of work in it, as the previous owners did not take care of it at all. So far, I have had good results, but I was saddened when something ate my roses. I know everything has to eat, but why my flowers?

And look! Minty uses LJ. ~_^

It's true. Iron Man is a flawed hero. :P I wish I could do those cool word balloons like the ones they use in the Iron Man comics!

The situation with my family at the moment is shaky at best. Updates may still be erratic in the coming weeks. Hopefully, having a new Cooking with Superman will make up for any gaps in the schedule. I know it's made my week a little better. Thank you for your patience.

Better news! Thanks to the tireless efforts of my volunteers, the transcription effort is nearly complete. We are thisclose to having a search function on KT! There's only a handful left to go. Thank you so much to everyone who chipped in.

Girls' Night Out wallpapers

I work in retail, and I bend over backwards for some of our customers. We have customers who have to buy everything separately, because they can't add. We have customers who leave their money or their ID in their car. And we have customers who play the pointing game either because they can't read or are too lazy to be bothered to speak. I'm sure my pain is universal.

Admit it. You played along with the Easter Bunny for awhile for the candy. XD

I've completed all the notations in the comic section of the website. Each page now has commentary, ranging from inspirations, notes on how the comic was made, bloopers, and other fun stuff. This also allowed me to give credit where it was due, which makes me feel a whole lot better!

Now I can turn my full attention to the transcription process. A lot of you have volunteered to help me out with this, and so far, we've pulled together 29 transcriptions! :D These transcriptions are text-based descriptions of each page of KT, so that I will be able to put a search function on the website. This will make it easier for you to find specific pages, and it will help others discover KT too, through its partnership with Oh No Robot. So if you want to help out, please drop by the database and pick a page to transcribe. Thank you so very much for all your support! I couldn't do this without you. ^_^

A million thanks to everyone who has contributed to the KT transcript database! 24 of the 97 comics are now transcribed, which means we're about 25% toward our goal of having a working comic search engine on the KT website. I appreciate every single person who's helped, but I would especially like to thank Xan, who wrote well over half of those transcriptions. What a trooper! Thank you ever so much, Xanda!

And finally, I am in the process of adding notations to each comic on the site. So if you look at the first twenty or so comics on the site, you'll see all sorts of commentary. Please excuse the dust while I work!

Website news! I have added a much-needed archive page to the comic section. So now, when you're telling your friend about the one where Minty ate wasabi, you'll have an easier time finding the link. ;)

I also plan on adding a search function soon, so comics will be even easier to find. To do this, though, I need help. Each comic page needs to be transcribed and entered into a database. I have six transcribed so far, but that leaves ninety others as of this week. That's more than any one person can do, but it's an easy task for a group. If you'd like to help, please go to my archive database and pick a comic to transcribe. Your help is really appreciated!

The Dream Fairy always bails me out when I have writer's block. :P And now for something more serious...

I am friends with Rachel Nabors, the artist behind Subculture of One. Rachel is a remarkable person--she began publishing her own comics when she was 18, and now, at the age of 22, she is one of the few people I know who can support herself on her artwork alone. She is the definition of pulling oneself up by the bootstraps.

Rachel had a terrible accident when she was 14. She lost a tooth and, unknown to her doctors, she fractured her jaw. That fracture healed improperly, and now that she is older, the bone is weakening. Without surgery, the problem will worsen, and she will very likely lose all her teeth. Rachel is a lovely person, inside and out, and I do not want to see this happen to her.

Rachel has no health insurance, and even if she did, it probably would not cover dental problems. Dental insurance would most likely consider this cosmetic, despite the threat of losing her teeth, or they would write it off as a preexisting condition. She needs multiple procedures done, which will cost upwards of $15,000. Yes, you read that right. This is a problem that few people would be able to handle on their own.

Kimono's Townhouse turns 2-years-old on February 8th. Hooray! When I started this thing, I never imagined I'd still be doing it two years later. :D I put together some fun things to celebrate the occasion!

KT Flyers--print up some of these flyers and leave small stacks of them in appropriate places, like flyer tables at conventions or the front counter of your favorite comic shop. OMG, viral marketing!
HideEmail--a little Perl script I wrote that lets you use mailto links on your website without worrying about spambots finding your email address. My gift to the world. ^_^ (Note: it's still in the beta testing stage, and a CGI-BIN is required.)
KT Scavenger Hunt--well, it's more like an Easter egg hunt, only a little early. ~_^ I've hidden a page on the website that has Batmint and Cooking with Superman desktop wallpapers you can download. To find the page, look for this purple star logo hidden somewhere on the website:

I love Grandaddy, and ever since they broke up, there has been a small hole in the musical section of my heart. But "Nature Anthem" is one of the most persistent ear worms I've ever encountered. So strong, in fact, that I will have to infect several of you, my dear readers, to be rid of it. >:P

Now, if I can turn serious for a moment...

I've had several uncomfortable incidents in the past few weeks involving some well-meaning fans. I love my readers, and I know they meant no harm, but there were serious implications to what they were doing, and I must address those. I am legally obligated to protect my copyrights, and so I hope no one holds this against me. I've written some Fan Activity Guidelines, which I'll also post here for convenience. Please comment with any concerns or questions.

Fan Activity Guidelines

Kimono’s Townhouse has the best fans. I am constantly surprised by their enthusiasm, and they make me feel loved and special. Even if no one read KT, I’d probably still make this comic for my own entertainment, but having such devoted fans definitely makes it more fun.

I enjoy interacting with KT fans, but occasionally, I run into tough situations. Sometimes, people suggest story ideas to me, which puts me in a very awkward position. Only two outcomes are possible when someone suggests an idea to me. One, I’d already come up with that idea, and they now think I’ve taken their suggestion. Two, I don’t use the idea, and they think I dislike either their ideas or, even worse, dislike them as a person. It’s a lose–lose situation.

I have a legal obligation to protect my copyrights, but I also do not want to discourage well–meant fan activity. I need to be able to say I have not taken someone else’s ideas, neither intentionally nor accidentally. For these reasons, I am providing these Fan Activity Guidelines. Please look over them carefully, and if you have any concerns at all, feel free to contact me.

You know, I've noticed that I get so much more done, now that I have no TV. :P There's a really bad joke hidden in this one. Ten points to the first person who finds it. ;)

News! Minty is now fully unleashed on the world. She has her own blog, Minty's Musings. It's completely random, like the pony herself, so there's really no telling what you're going to get. The blog will update every Sunday, and sporadic days in between.

Also new! I've added a nifty widget to the KT website that allows social bookmarking. So if you Digg, Stumble, Furl, or whatever, share a page you like with the world. ^_^
