A very Hellboy PSA.

I also like the ones with James Lipton.

Got a DS Browser you want to part with?

  • Jul. 2nd, 2008 at 10:09 AM
I give up. with as many negative reviews of the Nintendo's discontinued Internet Browser gets, you'd think it would be a fairly cheap and easily available product. Not so. I bought a $30 used copy on Amazon not long ago, but the vendor ended up giving me a refund when they noticed they'd actually sold it already. Now they're all starting at $40. Dude, Browser did not cost $40 to begin with. Opera is open source, even! RIP OFF!

The only reason I want Browser is because 1) I could use it to check email and google maps while out of town (way cheaper than a laptop), and 2) its design is better than the homebrew browsers.

Just thought I'd poke my nose out here and see if anyone had a discarded cartridge they were disappointed with (from the reviews, I gather it's better for email checking than surfing). I will trade you monies. Just, not forty dollars. That's ridiculous.

All kinds of awesome all over again.

"Miss Kitty" Collage Necklace - Beads - DaWanda

If that isn't the coolest thing ever.

Went to game night at Mur's last night and had a blast. Next time I'll wear a different shirt.

New reviews of the mini comics at Ind Comics Review. You know, I'm almost completely out of both my graphic novels, but I just can't afford to get them reprinted.

G1 pony catalog

Hi guys, I found an old Canadian catalog while rooting through a box of junk. I scanned a few pages. I don't know if anyone has scanned it in before...so if you want the whole thing, LMK!

Turn it up...

...LOUDER, LOUDER!

New button size.

  • Jul. 1st, 2008 at 12:22 AM
We've added a 117 by 30 pixel button to the sizes you can choose from now. Even if you don't display that size, you should upload one so it can appear on sites that choose to display the button code. Did you know that you can transfer impressions between banners? Check it out under Manage Resources on your Control Panel when you sign in!
After a solid week of hard work, the Rubifruit Exchange is up and running. Join now! The boots command it!

What is the Rubifruit Exchange?
It's a banner exchange that features comics by/for/about women (and more!).

Why should I join?
Because you will be cross-promoting your site with every other participating site. That's good for everybody.

Can anyone join?
Yes. And no. We at Rubifruit reserve the right to reject submissions of stupid content, like stories about large-breasted super-powered heroines. We also like to go out of our way to badger people we think are super awesome to join.

Can boys play, too?
Yes, so long as they meet one of the following criteria:
1. Have a strong female element in their creations
2. Have a large female fan base (Trent Reznor, for instance, could totally join this exchange)
3. Consider themselves a feminist
4. Have become a woman

How does it work?
You join. You upload a banner. You get a code. You put that code on your site. It displays the banners of other Rubifruiters. When someone clicks one of those banners, you get 200 or so impressions, that is to say, your banner appears 200 times on someone else's site(s).

What sort of sites do you want?
We currently have categories for the following:
Comics for Adults (R)
Comics for Everyone (G)
Comics for Teens (PG)
Communities
Galleries/Portfolios
News/Editorials/Blogs
Podcasts

We're also open to suggestions on new categories. These categories also let you decide what kind of sites are shown in rotation on your site.

What sizes of banners do you use/accept?
We have button, box, and banner sizes available. You can also upload multiple sizes.

After becoming unemployed, I set straight to work making this site using the skills I learned. I'm still tweaking the user-end, though, so let me know if there's anything you feel needs fixing or changing.

I'm very excited that we have finally gone live. I've been wanting to do this for so long. There have been many women-positive collectives online, but the problem with those is that they can only promote so many people at once. The Rubifruit Exchange lets everyone have a chance to see and be seen. So many incredible talents have already signed up! If you don't have a site but you know someone who belongs here please send them to rubifruit.com/exchange.

Look, we have an LJ!
For future updates on the Rubifruit Exchange, do consider following our LJ.

What's in the future for Rubifruit.com and the Rubifruit Exchange?
Rubifruit.com has some big things coming up. I don't know how long it will take me, but I can say that it will be a great place for female comickers to show their stuff. The Exchange is just one piece of a greater whole. But because it is for others, I felt this part was the most important piece to put up first.

Expect the user end of the Exchange to undergo some polishing. I also hope to add a feature to let users cheaply buy impressions (thus paying for the exchange's server-intensive hosting). I am researching all sorts of things that could turn the Exchange into a real promotion powerhouse, like a Facebook app that would randomly display a banner and a link to a Rubifruit comic, or better yet, one that alerts fans when a new comic has been posted.

But for now, it does what I meant it to do: cross-promote sites run by awesome people, sites I wish every one of my readers could visit.

Episode #78 Up! ^_^

Them's that's dead...

  • Jun. 30th, 2008 at 12:23 AM
I'm still in shock about Wanda. From what I gather she stopped the therapy because she was in too much pain. She died smiling, though.

I don't feel like I connect with a lot of people. In fact, I feel outright curmudgeonly most of the time. But I meet some that I like, usually people who are not filled with rage (like me) but who are filled with light and joy. It saddens me that Wanda, such a bright light in my mountain memories, is gone. Now there is one less person in the world that I like. It's become an even suckier place.

Last I heard from Wanda was when I moved out last March. She said she was with breast cancer and wouldn't be able to come visit until after chemo. I, all in a tizzy at figuring out life on my own two feet, proceeded to carry-on, unawares. I talked about her, but I never called. Wanda was always bad at keeping in touch, and I assumed (that thing you should never do) that she was very busy with her job and treatment and that she didn't need me hovering around her. There I was, taking another friend to her chemo sessions, and I just didn't call Wanda. Seems really stupid in hindsight, doesn't it?

The sad thing is that all the grief I'm feeling? It's all about me, if you think about it. It has nothing to do with her. She's not here anymore. What influence do my feelings have? Whenever we think "I should have" or "if only I had" we aren't actually caring about the person we're thinking about. We're punishing ourselves. So the grief isn't about the dead anymore, it's about guilt, self-punishment, and bruised egos. We're not upset that they're dead. We're upset that they are no longer in our lives. The dead don't care anymore. The living do.

So I am not allowing myself to think those thoughts. Wanda is gone. No amount of what-iffing changes that. I feel it would be dishonorable to only think of her in order to think about myself. Better to learn my lessons and not make the same mistake again.

You know that saying about closing the barn door after the horses get out? We shouldn't have to wait until someone is dead to start thinking about what we should do for them. I know you feel busy or rushed, but it's true that you should live each day as though it were your last. At least, it could be somebody else's last. So if you have a friend you've been putting off contacting, just get off your "but I'm so busy and important!" butt, ask yourself what's really important, and go say hi. Once someone is gone, there are no rain checks.

But it's really awful. Just awful. Awful. Awful. Wanda was one of my good friends back home. Awful. Awful. Awful.

awful

In memory of Wanda.

This entry dedicated to Wanda, a vibrant, good friend of mine who came down with breast cancer before I left home last year. I remember asking her to come visit so I could get her eel sushi, which she loved. She said she would come in a about a year, when she finished chemo and had time.

She died last night.

We worked at a local restaurant together one year. We saw an Inconvenient Truth together. She always missed the north. She was my gal pal on the mountain.

And now she is gone.

Goodbye, Wanda.

This country is run by flaming idiots who think it's okay to buy a gas guzzling SUV then cry like mortally wounded weasels when LE SHOCK, the price of gas goes up. What, did they think it would go down?

Indeed, where is the logic in such decisions?

Hello everyone!

Currently taking commissions of your ponies for $5 a pony. I will happily do multiple character pictures. Please view the single lonely pic in my gallery for example. There are more pics coming soon! Take advantage as I rarely offer commissions like this but I need some money for a kitty fund....
