The Future of KT

How do I start this?

When I first began KT in 2006, I didn't expect it to last long. It was just to amuse myself and my immediate circle of friends. To my surprise, it got somewhat popular, peaking around 2010. It has been slowly declining since then. Comments on social media have decreased. Traffic to the website has decreased.

At the same time, I recently was promoted at the paleontological site where I work. I have more responsibilities, and I work longer hours. After seven years of reliable, weekly updates, I find myself having to skip weeks or update a day late.

So I am left with a choice. I very much want to continue the comic--I still enjoy it, and I'm not quite done with my story. At the same time, it's clear that the current set-up is not working. Long-term, I have to decide if it's time to start winding the comic toward the end I have had in mind all along. More immediately, I have to decide if the weekly update schedule needs to change. That's where you come in.

Poll #1912400 KT Schedules

When should KT update?

Keep to the Wednesday schedule, even if sometimes, it's late
53(53.0%)
Switch to Mondays, so maybe it won't be late as often
39(39.0%)
Switch to Tuesdays, so maybe it won't be late as often
8(8.0%)

Congrats on the promotion!

I have no preference on your schedule, so I'm abstaining from voting. Whenever works for you is great!

I believe Wednesdays would be best even if sometimes it's late. Real life comes first and if you are late...well, hey it happens. I think you should do what is best for yourself. If that means fans of the comic have to wait sometimes, then they should wait. I'd rather have the creator not burn herself out. :)

In the end I just want to say I've been a fan of the comic for a long time. Thank you for making it, it's brought a lot of smiles to my face. I look forward to it continuing even if it's not super regular.

It's screamingly obvious that you love making the comic. I love to read it for giggles but at the same time I do very much admire all the work that goes into your gear, props, setup, lighting, everything (how do you FIND all that little tiny stuff???), not to mention your writing. KT is quality work and you should be proud of it. But, of course, it isn't the only thing you do or love, and we, as fellow sentient critters, know that. It is your comic. Update it when it suits your life/love-to-do-this-stuff schedule. Me, I'm delighted to read it when it suits you to make it!

Honestly, I don't care when you update so long as it's a schedule that's easier for you to keep. I've noticed lots of my favorite webcomic artists say they have a busy schedule and can't update regularly. This turns into the artist never updating or only updating once every three months.

I do enjoy reading KT. I wouldn't even mind if you cut back to every two weeks. I would like to see you get to an ending that you're happy with in the comic. Unfinished stories are always a bit sad.

I was going to send you some tiny seashells to play with. I love your comic!

Don't feel pressured to update every week. :)
I don't believe I've ever posted a comment here, but I will step up to say this: I regularly read this comic and appreciate each laugh it gives me each week. I understand how life can be busy (congratulations on the promotion!); this summer looks like mostly schoolwork for me.

I wish there was a button that said "I understand your busyness! Update once every other week, or whenever you feel you have the time."

As much as I love checking the site once a week to see how the story is progressing, I can't have my enjoyment trump your need to work and rest. Real life is most important. :)

God bless,

First of all, congrats with your promotion!

Like many of the commenters, I am one of those lurkers. Started following on the site, then realised tracking it on LJ was a lot easier. I haven't voted, simply because I honestly don't mind which day you pick and how often you update. I am still enjoying your lovely comic, looking at all the tiny items and such. Take your time!

I still enjoy your comic- and am happy to see the updates! I don't mind that you skip some :) I also understand about real life becoming hectic, I'd be ok with you winding the plot to it's close also, just please don't drop it suddenly!

D) Whenever life allows!

I have been reading for a year or two now... But I rarely comment... I either have nothing to say or would say the same thing as someone else. ;;^_^;; But you do great work! I love the clean humor. :)

I love the once a week deal; but if every other week works better for you, then let it be so! As someone before me said, it is very obvious that you love doing this, so don't feel like you have to make it a hassle for you.

Congratulations on the promotion!! Yays for you! :)

Personally I'm not on Facebook much... There's another comic that I love that she stopped updating on LJ and now focuses on Facebook... and I think about it every few months... Lol, I don't even get on Tumbler so I'm not going to suggest it! XD But again, go with whatever you want. As you said, the popular site changes frequent. (I'm honestly surprised that LJ is as popular as it is...!)

Poll
I can't answer this poll sweetie, the day needs to be the day that's best for you and only you can answer this. Do you have a Facebook prescence? I am very suprised at the drop of traffic given the emergency of the lovely Brony types, maybe it just needs a bit of promoting again? x

Re: Poll
KT does have a Facebook page! Sometimes, I even post exclusive content there. ^_^

The brony reaction wasn't what I expected, either. I thought the new cartoon series might give a small boost to the comic, especially since it was at its peak when the cartoon debuted. Some bronies did start reading. Many reacted negatively, though. In their view, it's simply the "wrong" generation and not worth a second glance. This is fine--it's not what they want. It just wasn't what I'd anticipated.

I see there is no need for me to add my voice to the "I don't care when you post it, but I sure hope you don't stop" chorus. But I will anyway!

I get your installments via facebook, so I'm happy any day you decide to update. Good luck, and congratulations on your promotion! I'd love to work there. :)
