For those reading this out loud, it might help to know that SCSI is pronounced "scuzzy." This is, admittedly, far geekier than my usual fare.

Two computers ago, which translates to about eight years, I had a system that was a mess of cables and wires. My ZIP drive was a SCSI device, but my computer had no SCSI port. However, for reasons unknown, my scanner did have a SCSI port. I think it might have been for a printer to piggyback on the scanner, but luckily, my printer was a USB device, so all three coexisted on my desk. The PC connected to the scanner, and the scanner connected to the drive in a ridiculous chain. These days, virtually everything runs on USB and has plug and play capabilities, and I couldn't be happier. No more adapters and piggybacking!

Many thanks to KT beta reader Jill, who helped me fix the meter in a couple spots. Much love!

Edit: After encouragement from Joamette Gil, I'm putting this forward as a meme. Webcomic authors! You are hereby challenged to write a sonnet!

All hail the mighty USB!
I love USB, too. I hope the tech inventors don't change this wonderful system (but they can make it more powerful, if they want =D ).

USB is so convenient and handy (and a plus for me, doesn't break easily!)...

I really love how sturdy they are. Woe is a parallel plug with broken pins! Those USB drives do eventually break, though. The red one in panel five is the dead drive I had to perform voodoo on.

Awww I love the old school plugs and computers!! Because no matter how big a mess you made, there was always a way to make things work, even though it was seemingly impossible. :D Try that with vista these days and your computer will only give you blue screen of death. ;)

And YAY for geeky computer posts!! <3 for Minty!

Try darn near anything with Vista and you'll get BSOD sooner or later.

Adorkable!! ^_^

I hate those plugs with the screws, they never screw in all the way :p

That was awesome on several levels.

It has always been one of the great mysterious in the geek world why the pronunciation of SCSI was determined to be 'scuzzy' rather than the far-more-evocative 'sexy'.

It would make tech support calls more interesting!

Aha! Now I recognize all those plugs and ports and connectors, LOL. I always referred to them as "the purple one" or "the long gray thingie" -- I never knew their real names. ;D

This strip might become a KT classic. ^_^

It's like a plug tutorial! :D This is definitely one of my faves.

Also, the iambic pentameter only works in the third line if you say each letter of L-O-L individually (don't read "lawl")! :3

I love this one!

That, too! I'm really proud of that word pair. It's almost a feminine rhyme.

I should make this a meme! I'll challenge other webcomic authors to write sonnets. :D

I was wrong.

Have you seen this commercial, then? XD

(tries to fight off the inner geek saying anything about the cable in panel 4 being a VGA one (15 pin & blue) rather than serial (9 or 25 pins))

OMG you're kidding. O_O I thought it was a DE-15!

Hehe! I'm working on adding USB 3.0 support to Linux, so I found this comic amusing. I do still have to keep a computer with PS2 keyboard and mouse connectors around so I can still type when I break my USB subsystem.
Jun. 6th, 2009 07:30 pm (UTC)
Oh, neat! I'm really excited about 3.0. :D
