I've watched a lot of werewolf movies, hoping that someday I will find an excellent one. I'm always disappointed. It shouldn't be that hard! These things write themselves. Silver Bullet and the original Teen Wolf are the best we have so far, and that is not saying much. Someone fix this!

Iffy story, hissy vampires, that hybrid looking dorky, infringing White Wolf's copyrights...

I agree with ranchlamb! Underworld was good. Though it has both Vampires and Werewolves.

Ginger Snaps?

I'm just glad you didn't mention "Wolf" with Jack Nicholson. EGADS. That movie just makes me laugh and laugh.

It was in the original script! I ran out of space, the selection of bad werewolf movies being so vast.

I can't help it, I love that movie. :D
It helps that James Spader is crazy hot no matter the movie.

I admit I haven't seen it, but "pretty good for a werewolf film" doesn't inspire much confidence.

I like the UK version of Being Human, granted, its not a movie, and granted it got a ghost and a vampire as well as a werewolf, but I thought it was pretty good.

I also agree with the Underworld supporters... it wasn't too bad.

The only 'good' thing about Twilight Werewolves... at least they don't sparkle in the sun, THAT is an unforgivable sin in my eyes.

"Not too bad" is the operative phrase, here. There are no definitive werewolf films. Zombies have Night of the Living Dead, and demons have The Exorcist, and ghosts have Poltergeist... werewolves have a large pile of mediocre movies.

Yeah, I have never worked out WHY.... they always seem to pair werewolves with vampires.... stupid limelight stealing vampires

*Snickers* Agreed!

(With the last two panels, anyway. I'm not a big werewolf fan... But the comic is funny and great!! :))

Hah! I'm betting you knew I'd like this one. ;)

(Although I'd argue that most vampire movies are pretty godawful as well...)

And now I really do need to see the Wolfman remake.

It's true! There are some awful vampire movies. But at least they have a few great ones to point to. :P

Have I mentioned that I love you [info]kimonos_house ? ^///^ <3
Fairy Dust is such a beautiful pony why does it have to be so unlikeable?

I would recommend
Ginger Snaps, the British film Dog Soldiers, although the costumes do look a little bit rubbery in places and from the eighties, The Company of Wolves which was taken from an Angela Carter short story and has a naked Danielle Dax at the end in it.

Re: I would recommend
Bleeeeh. I was wondering if anyone would bring up Brotherhood of the Wolf. That film infuriated me. It was pretty, but I didn't care for the story, and it has no werewolves. It is not a werewolf movie.

I liked the original Wolfman. But I guess it's easy to say they have god awful special effects. (Though some of the transformation scenes were nearly revolutionary when the movie was made, if an article I read a few years ago is to be believed.)

I don't begrudge that movie its special effects. They were exceptional for the time. Romani stereotypes do make me uncomfortable, though.

Its true, werewolves don't get proper respect when it comes to the movies. I did like Ginger Snaps though. The viral nature of the beast was good.
One werewolf film I'm undecided on is Blood and Chocolate based on the book by the same name. While the film is good in it's own right and the special effects were beautiful, they threw out the original story entirely and set it in the wrong continent. That was unforgivable.
